JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 20, 2023) – ETSU’s men’s basketball program has announced that head coach Brooks Savage has signed David Meriwether (Indianapolis, Ind.) to the Bucs 2023-24 roster.

The 6’10” 230-pound freshman center could make an immediate difference on the court for the Bucs this season as Savage and the ETSU coaching staff were searching for a big player to join them at the 5.

Before Meriwether was signed, the Bucs roster listed zero centers, so this signing provides a massive sense of relief for the coaching staff and the Buccaneer fanbase.

Meriwether averaged 15 points, 17 rebounds, five assists, and seven blocks while at Indianapolis Metropolitan and Lawrence North High School. He was also a member of George Hill AAU, a team Indiana Pacers guard George Hill sponsors. George Hill AAU has produced hundreds of players who are recruited to play for D1 schools all over the country.

Meriwether fielded offers from IUPUI, Miami (OH), Illinois State, Southern Indiana, Morehead State, and East Tennessee State. Ultimately, he decided to call Johnson City home for this next chapter in his athletic and academic career.
