Come celebrate Christmas time with Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder on Dec. 13 at the ETSU Martin Center at 7:30 p.m.
Ricky Skaggs, 15-time Grammy award winner and bluegrass legend will be here this December, alongside bluegrass band Kentucky Thunder, to celebrate Christmas with Johnson City.
“I think it will be really exciting to have a legend like him in our facility,” Jennifer Clements, executive director of the Martin Center and university events at Martin Center for the Arts, shared.
Ricky Skaggs has also made himself known through many collaborations with artists such as Ry Cooder and Bruce Hornsby. In 1982, Ricky was made the youngest member of the Grand Ole Opry, at that time.
“I think that Ricky will attract music lovers from all genres, including country, bluegrass, old-timey music, anyone who likes Christmas Music or just wants to enjoy a wonderful night out with bluegrass legend,” said Clements.
The music artist has been honored with inductions into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, Musicians Hall of Fame, the National Fiddler Hall of Fame, IBMA Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and, most importantly, the Country Music Hall of Fame. He also has been awarded the National Medal of Arts in 2020.
The show will include bluegrass tunes such as “Christmas Time’s A Comin” and “New Star Shining”, two hit songs for Ricky Skaggs. With bluegrass Christmas tunes, Johnson City will be able to enjoy an amazing Appalachian holiday.
Tickets went on sale Friday, Sept. 22. Get your ticket before the show is sold out.
“Tickets have hit the ground and running. We have sold a ton of tickets for the show, so it’s promised to be a packed show, I think,” said Clements.
