Family weekend is right around the corner, beginning on Nov. 3 and concluding on the morning of Nov. 5.

“I think it’s important to have a family weekend to allow families to be involved with their students’ education. We know that families play an integral part in the student experience in general, and we want the families to be as excited about being here at ETSU as our students are,” says Assistant Director of Family Programs, Trish Caughran.

Family weekend is an ETSU tradition that encourages families of current students to visit campus and Johnson City, to gain a broader perspective of what the area has to offer for their students. Festivities include a number of opportunities to engage with campus from shows, to bonding exercises, and tours.

On Nov 3, family weekend will kick off with check in from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., followed by information sessions, tabling and meet and greets with different campus organizations and resources. Families will then be invited to the welcome reception, and will have the option to meet at Tiebreakers, where the first 180 guests will receive a free $10 game card. Numerous optional activities will also be available to visit throughout the day.

On Nov. 4, families can check in from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., where they can attend the tailgate and football game. Optional events will also be available for this day, with a noteworthy experience being a tour of the Tennessee Hills Brewstillery, to learn about ETSU’s distillery minor.

On the morning of Nov. 5, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., families can meet for brunch to finish out the weekend.

Some of the other optional activities offered throughout the week include visiting the Reece Museum, a yoga class, ziplining, a planetarium show, exercising with your student and the ETSU orchestra’s fall performance.

“I definitely want people to know that New Student (and) Family Programs is here for families, that they can reach out to us, that family weekend is so special. The memories that families and students will make together this weekend will last a lifetime,” says Caughran.
