Women’s basketball traveled to Virginia to compete against Radford University on Wednesday, Nov. 15.
ETSU’s defense held strong in the first quarter, only allowing 1 in 11 shots from Radford in the net.
The Buccaneers took the lead in the first half of the game, earning eight points in the first quarter and 13 in the second, while Radford only earned two points in the first quarter and 10 in the second. This put the score at halftime 21 ETSU 12 Radford.
In the first half, graduate student Breanne Beatty (Worthington, Ohio) scored five points, and senior Courtney Moore (Gainesville, Florida) scored a 3-pointer.
After halftime, Radford’s offense came into play, and they fought hard for a comeback.
Radford continued to score more points than the Bucs in the final two quarters, but the Buccaneers’ defense and offense worked together, earning them the game.
The final five minutes of the game were the most intense as the Highlanders earned a 3-pointer, making the game score 40-39 with an ETSU lead by one point. During this time, junior Kendall Folley (Lebanon, Ohio) scored a shot with 10.7 seconds left on the clock, while junior Nevaeh Brown (Charlotte, North Carolina) made numerous free throws with the last two during the final seconds of the game.
ETSU took the win against Radford with a final score of 49-45.
Beatty earned the highest number of points for the Bucs during the game, scoring 13 points. Behind her was Moore, who scored 11 points.
The Bucs will be playing at Presbyterian on Sunday, Nov. 19, and in the Miami Thanksgiving Tournament on Friday, Nov. 24, before returning home to play Lipscomb on Thursday, Nov. 30.
