The ETSU women’s basketball team traveled to the Miami Thanksgiving Tournament riding a three-game win streak. Their opponents were coming off a very strong season, finishing last year 26-7.

ETSU tipped off vs the Spartans, and the Bucs got off to a quick start, outscoring Norfolk State 29-12 in the first half. ETSU went on to hand Norfolk State their first loss of the season, 55-35. The Bucs extended their win streak to four.

The leading scorer for the Bucs was Breanne Beatty (Worthington, Ohio), who finished the day shooting 5-of-9 from the field for 14 points. Beatty also recorded nine rebounds and four assists. Senior guard Courtney Moore (Gainesville, Fla.) also dropped double-digit points, ending the game with 11 points, three rebounds and two assists.

The ETSU defense ultimately decided the game, holding the Spartans offense to just 12 first-half points. Norfolk State could not seem to get it going offensively, making 14-of-53 from the field and 1-of-16 from three.

Following the Bucs’ 55-35 victory over Norfolk State, ETSU went on to play Miami next. Miami maintained their perfect season with a 68-44 win over the Buccaneers.

Even though the Buccaneers lost the game, they kept playing until the end. They scored 17 points in the fourth quarter, the most they scored in a single quarter that game.

The ETSU women’s basketball team leads the All-Time record versus Lipscomb 19-2. The Buccaneers have never lost to Lipscomb at home, as they have won all nine matchups that have taken place in Johnson City.

Lipscomb comes into the game with a 4-2 record, averaging 67 points per game.
