Johnson City offers events and activities for those in area to enjoy throughout the winter season.

ETSU students looking for something to do over the holiday break should have plenty of options. Johnson City is hard at work planning and organizing events to keep the community active and together.

Jessica Sanders, Creative Content Coordinator for Visit Johnson City, said, “Candy Land Christmas kicks off the holiday season with the grand tree lighting on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.  The Mall at Johnson City offers photos with Santa during the month of December.  Downtown Johnson City usually has several events to encourage the community to shop locally for holiday gifts including the Merry Marketplace coming up this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Langston Centre.  This holiday market features local vendors and artisans from around the region.”

Those who missed the tree lighting can still go see all the beautiful trees decorated by businesses throughout the region. Over 160 trees stretch throughout Founder’s Park and King Commons and will be lit each night in December for visitors to see.

Johnson City strives to entertain and draw in visitors with events throughout the year, especially holidays. The city also makes efforts to give back to those in need during the season.

“Visit Johnson City and hotel partners around the city are hosting Hotels with Heart, a donation drive collecting gloves, hats, and socks that will go to Family Promise in Johnson City,” Sanders said.

Whether you are looking for a way to pass time during the break or for a fun new family outing Johnson City is sure to provide. Events and activities are always being planned.

“One of the best ways to find out about upcoming community events is the events calendar on Visit Johnson City’s website and on their social media sites,  or stop in at Johnson City’s newly opened Visitor Center and talk to the staff to find out more about everything our region has to offer for the holidays and year-round,” Sanders said.
