East Tennessee State University fell short in their away game against the Furman Paladins in Greenville S.C., losing the fight, 82-73.
Jayden Seymour (Charlotte, N.C.) led the East Tennessee State charge, putting up 23 points, four rebounds, and two steals in 38 minutes. In addition to Seymour’s solid performance, Quimari Peterson (Gary, Ind.) finished the game with 16 points, seven rebounds, and shot 50 percent from the three point line. While scoring 10 points, Jadyn Parker (Shallotte, N.C.) was also able to secure nine boards for the team.
Alex Williams (Xenia, OH) and JP Pegues (Nashville, TN) of the Paladins both led the team in points, getting 20 points each in the victory. The duo put up nearly half of Furman’s total points. Williams shot an impressive 75 percent from the three point line, and finished the game with seven rebounds. Pegues was excellent at the free throw line shooting 100 percent, he also got his teammates some buckets with two assists.
The Bucs secured the lead over Furman about six minutes into the game, that being their only lead of the game. ETSU battled hard with Furman all night long, and put up a good fight. But, Furman established a lead and finished the first half with a seven-point lead going into halftime.
Entering the second half of the game Furman boosted their lead to 21 points with nearly 12 minutes left to play. Both teams overall shot the rock pretty well, both going about 44 percent from the field. The Paladins were fantastic from the free throw line, finishing the game 23-26 from the charity stripe. Despite having an average night from the free throw line going 7-11, ETSU still put up a great fight.
East Tennessee State falls to 9-8 0n the season, while Furman improves to 8-9. The Bucs hit the road again and are looking forward to their next game Jan. 17 against the Wofford Terriers.
