The ETSU women’s basketball team came up short on Saturday’s outing against the Mocs moving their record to 13-5 and leaving them in second place in the SoCon conference standings.
The Bucs scoring was led by none other than junior guard Nevaeh Brown (Charlotte, N.C.) earning thirteen points, four rebounds and responsible for one of the Bucs only two steals of the day. Brown’s counterpart, junior guard Kendall Folley (Lebanon, Ohio) also had a solid performance for the Bucs putting up ten points, three assists, and a steal in twenty-two minutes of play.
Saturday’s game for sole position of first place was nothing short of a thriller. The Bucs started the game off with a 4-0 run on the Mocs before Chattanooga guard Sigrun Olafsdottir would get them on the board with a three. The Mocs dominant start to the game sent them to the half with a 28-23 lead.
Coach Brown got her Bucs back on the right track after halftime as it was all Buccaneers midway through the third quarter and into the final seconds of the game. The Bucs went on to tie the game up at 50 a piece with less than five seconds left on the clock.
With possession of the ball, all the Mocs needed to secure the victory was a free throw.
With just over a second left in the game, on the inbound pass. The Mocs would draw the foul they were hoping for, and Jada Guinn of UTC would go on to make both of her shots.
The tough loss for the Bucs puts them in a tie for second place in the SoCon standings with UNC Greensboro.
Coach Brown and her Bucs look to bounce back on Jan. 25 when they’ll head to Cullowhee to start their weeklong road trip and take on the Western Carolina Catamounts. Tip-off is set for 7 PM inside the Ramsey Regional Activity Center.
