The ETSU women’s tennis team secured their first win of the spring season by defeating MTSU with a score of 4-0. This victory improved their season record to 1-3.

ETSU earned doubles competition wins from the pairs of senior Fernanda Carvajal (Queretaro, Mexico)/junior Daniela Rivera (Maturin, Venezuela) and freshman Alessandra Caceres (Calama, Chile)/senior Sofia Markova (Nuremberg, Germany).

In singles competition, Rivera won her first match with a score of 6-1, 6-2, followed by Markova’s victory at the No.1 singles spot with a score 6-3, 6-0.

The final match was claimed by junior Ralista Alexandrova (Sofia, Bulgaria) with a score of 7-5, 6-0. The order of finish for single matches was 3,1,6.

Doubles competition:

  1. Carvajal/Rivera def. Rutuja Chaphalkar/Cassidy Mataia (MTSU) 6-2.
  2. Cáceres/Markova def. Sana Garakani /Eloise Swarbrick (MTSU) 6-3.
  3. Lilly-Sophie Schmidt/Alessia Truden (MTSU) def. freshman Jana Rovira (Puigcerda, Spain)/Alexandrova 7-5, 6-0.

Singles Competition:

  1. Markova def. Sana Garakani (MTSU) 6-3, 6-0.
  2. Cassidy Mataia (MTSU) def. Cavajal 6-4, 0-6, 1-1, UF
  3. Rivera def. Lene Peyer (MTSU) 6-1, 6-2.
  4. Ilaria Sposetti (MTSU) def. Rovira 4-6, 5-3, UF
  5. Alessia Truden (MTSU) def. Caceres 2-6, 5-4, UF
  6. Alexandrova  def. Lilly-Sophie Schimdt (MTSU) 7-5, 6-0.

The women’s tennis team will return to action on Feb. 10 at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. First serve between the Bucs and the Volunteers is set for 1 p.m.
