ETSU’s men’s basketball team hosted The Citadel Bulldogs inside of Freedom Hall on Saturday and looked to get back over .500 midway through the season. With the 62-60 win, the Bucs improved their record to 12-11 and moved to seventh place in the SoCon standings.

The Bucs scoring was led by senior guard Ebby Asamoah (Rockville, Md.) who picked up 17 points in twenty-nine minutes of play. Asamoah’s outing on Saturday picked him up his 900 career point in his college tenure. Junior forward Jaden Seymour (Charlotte, N.C.) also had a nice showing for the Bucs picking up 12 points in thirty-seven minutes of play.

Saturday’s matchup saw the Bucs off to a hot start going up 14-6 on the Bulldogs in the early going. That quickly changed as the Bulldogs defense would slam the door on the Bucs early rally, sending the game into halftime with ETSU leading 28-26.

The Citadel answered the Bucs call in the second half keeping the game well within reach heading into the final minutes of play.

With just under two to go, the Bulldogs went on to claw their way back and even things up at 60. Knotted up with six seconds left on the clock, junior guard Quimari Peterson (Gary, Ind.) would make a crucial layup for the Bucs that prevailed them to the win.

Saturdays win puts the Bucs at 3-2 in their last 5 games. They look to keep this momentum going as the season goes on and the SoCon tournament closes in.

The Bucs next matchup is scheduled for Feb. 7 inside Freedom Hall against the Wofford Terriers who are on a win streak in their own right. A win on Wednesday would put the Bucs two games over .500 for the first time since 2022-2023 season began.
