The ETSU’s women’s track and field team had a successful outing on Friday, with notable performances across various events. Junior Diana Romero-Barba (Tepatitlan de Morelos, Jalisco, Mexico) the Buccaneer pole vaulter, had another outstanding showing by not only setting a personal best but also tying the school record in the event with a mark of 3.80m. This achievement solidifies her position as a leader in the SoCon this season.

Junior Tya Blake (Lynchburg, Va.) also stood out in the field, setting a season-best performance in the long jump with a leap of 5.31m.

On the track, senior Hannah Burkhart (Knoxville, Tenn.) set a personal best in the 800m, clocking in at 2:15.21, which ranked 15th among 45 competitors.

In the 5000m open run, the Lady Bucs had a strong presence. With sophomore Camryn Johnson (Knoxville, Tenn.) claiming her first podium placement by finishing third with a time of 18:33.23. Sophomore Sophie Beach (Boone, N.C.) and sophomore Karli Townsell (Statesville, N.C.) also performed admirably, finishing fourth and fifth respectively. With Beach breaking her personal best time by nine seconds and Townsell setting a personal record by over 17 seconds.

  

 (Feb. 10) – The ETSU’s women’s track and field team concluded their final pre-championship competition at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational.

Sophomore Maya Murchison (Gambrills, Md.) performed exceptionally well, seizing the meet title in the high jump event. Murchison achieved a personal best clearance of 1.64m on her second attempt, earning her first career gold medal.

This performance also marks her second top three finish of the season, following a third-place finish at the VMI Winter Relays. Murchison’s impressive leap has positioned her fourth overall in the SoCon Indoor Championships.

On the track, Burkhart secured a top-10 finish in the 500m, coming seventh with a time of 1:16.80. Sophomore McKenna Boykin (Powder Springs, Ga.) narrowly missed the top-10, finishing in the 11th place with a time of 1:17.57. Additionally, the team achieved a top-10 finish in the 4x400m relay, placing 10th with a time 4:02.60.

Looking ahead, the Buccaneers will compete in the Southern Conference Indoor Championships at Virginia Military Institute Feb. 24-25, marking the beginning of the championship season for the team.
