The East Tennessee State Buccaneers, took on the VMI Keydets at home in Freedom Hall on Feb. 21 and showed a dominant performance. The Buccaneers would go on to win against the Keydets 82-69.

Ebby Asamoah (Rockville, Md.) led the Buccaneers in points for the night, scoring 21 points. Asamoah also shot a perfect game from the free throw line. In addition to Asamoah’s points, Quimari Peterson (Gary, Ind.)  had fantastic all around night. Peterson managed to collect a double-double by scoring 13 points and getting the ball to his teammates with ten assists and added five boards to go along with it.

Peterson had over 60% of the teams total assists. Jadyn Parker (Shallotte, N.C.) also had a solid all around performance. Parker scored 11 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and got his teammates some points with three assists.  The Bucs overall shot 44% from the field, 73% from the free throw line, and grabbed 38 total rebounds.

Taeshaud Jackson II of the Keydets led his team in points with 18 on the night. Jackson also grabbed 11 rebounds to secure himself a double-double. Devin Butler had the second most points for the Keydets with 12. DJ Nussbaum was runner up for the team in rebounds, he grabbed 4 boards on the night. DJ scored eight points while shooting 50% from the field.

Overall, this was an entertaining matchup to watch between both teams. The Buccaneers held strong the entire game, not allowing the Keydets a lead. The Keydets have had major struggles all season long. With the loss to the Bucs the Keydets are now 4-24 on the season and 1-14 in conference. The Bucs are now even on the season, sitting at 14-14 and 6-9 in conference. The Bucs were fresh off of a three game losing streak, with this win to hope to continue a win streak.
