The ETSU women’s softball team hosted the Colonials of Robert Morris from Moon Township, Pennsylvania over the weekend taking game one of the series in eight innings and dropping the second game in nine.

Game one between the two was nothing short of a thriller. The Bucs quickly got on the board in the first inning with a Sara Muir (Sequatchie, Tenn.) single off of the center field fence. The Bucs maintained the 1-0 lead until the Colonials got on the board in the third scoring a pair of runs off of two singles.

The game remained at 2-1 standoff until the sixth inning when Sara Muir picked up her second RBI of the day, this time off of a solo shot over the center field wall. With the game tied at two a piece, the Buccaneer coaching staff made the pitching change from Muir to Whitley Arnott (China Grove, N.C.) who shut the RMU offense down.

In the bottom of the eighth, with runners on first and second, Taylor Suchy (Sterling, Va.), ripped a single off of the right field wall, scoring Olivia Absher (Watuaga, Tenn.), and securing the Bucs the 3-2 win in extras in game one.

Game two saw the action pick up right where it had left off. In the third inning, Cameron Young (Knoxville, Tenn.) ripped a double down the left field line scoring Jasmine Sanchez (Buford, Ga.) all the way from first.

The Colonials managed to tie the game up in the fifth with an error made at second base allowing the runner to score.

The game that started a pitchers dual turned into an offensive onslaught in the top of the 9th inning with the Robert Morris offense plating three runs coming off of just three hits and two walks allowed by the Bucs pitching staff.

The Bucs ultimately couldn’t rally back in the home half of the ninth and ended up dropping the second game of the Sunday series 4-1.

With the split on Sunday, the Bucs improve their record to 4-10, surpassing their win total from the 2023 season. With the conference matchups approving soon, the Lady Bucs have four midweek matchups remaining to prepare.
