Traveling into the hot Tampa heat, the ETSU women’s tennis team was able to knock No. 63 ranked USF Bulls. In a 4-3 victory, the Buccaneers improve to 8-5 on the season.

The last match, before Spring Break, marked the fourth time in the last five season in which the Bucs have defeated a ranked opponent. The last ranked win came against No. 72 Yale Bulldogs last spring. Before that, a win against rival No. 45 Appalachian State Mountaineers in 2020.

As the doubles match-up games began, the Women’s tennis quickly grabbed a 1-0 lead on the Bulls. Overall, the Bucs and Bulls would end up splitting the first two matches. However, junior, Ralitsa Alexandrova (Sofia, Bulgaria) and freshmen, Jana Rovira (Puigcerda, Spain) were able to earn a 6-4 victory.

Over on the singles side of action, the nationally ranked USF Bulls were able to mount an impressive come from behind performance. ETSU’s own, junior, Daniela Rivera (Maturin, Venezuela)  and Alexandrova were able to capture wins in their singles matches, but goes without saying that the Bulls were able to tie things overall at a score of 3-3.

What led the Buccaneers to victory was freshmen, Alessandra Caceres (Calama, Chile) who won in the monstrous three set victory.

This win points to the often winning ways of the women’s tennis squad. The victory over the USF Bulls on Tuesday, March 12, was the third straight win, while also being the seventh of the last eight victories.

ETSU women’s tennis returns to action this Friday, on the road against the nationally ranked No. 28 FIU Panthers. Another important game with a win streak and potential rankings game awaits. The first serve is scheduled for noon.
