ETSU softball split a doubleheader against Western Carolina this past Saturday. They won the second game 2-1, with senior Whitley Arnott (China Grove, N.C.) pitching a complete game and junior Cameron Young (Knoxville, Tenn.) driving in two runs with a double in third inning. Arnott allowed only one run on six hits with three strikeouts. The Buccaneers hurler threw 95 pitches (61 strikes), registering her second complete game of the season. Young’s double came after freshman Gracen Hinson (Thomasville, Ga.) and sophomore Jasmine Sanchez (Buford, Ga.) got on base. ETSU had a total of three hits in a game.

Western Carolina plated its run in the fourth when Jeralynn Wells belted a two-out home run to left, but Arnott retired 10 of the final 13 Catamount hitters to secure ETSU’s first conference win of the season. In the first game, ETSU lost 8-3, with sophomore Taylor Suchy (Sterling, Va.) pitching for them and Tessa Juett for Western Carolina. Sophomore Brylee Mesusan (Johnson City, Tenn.) and junior Cameron Young (Knoxville, Tenn.) both had two hits for the Bucs. With the split, ETSU moved to 7-24 overall and 1-7 in SoCon play, while Western Carolina is now 11-20, 2-6. The rubber match of the series is scheduled for April 7 at 1 p.m. from Betty Basler field.
