The ETSU men’s golf team traveled to Knoxville last Friday to showcase their talents at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate tournament in their season opener from Sept. 6-8, where they competed against a strong field of collegiate teams. The Buccaneers, who are gearing up for a promising season, with their newest team addition in transfer student Kristan Bressum aimed to make an early impact in their fall schedule.

ETSU entered the tournament with high expectations, led by a mix of experienced upperclassmen and promising newcomers. This year’s roster only featured two returning Buccaneers from last year’s team. Throughout the three-day event, the Bucs had their ups and downs but demonstrated resilience and true team chemistry. While ETSU didn’t finish at the top of the leaderboard, the men in blue and gold show they have excellent potential for this season. Additionally the tournament provided valuable experience for the players, who will use this as a learning opportunity moving forward. The competition allowed for the Bucs to find many strengths and weaknesses and evaluate how to move forward for the rest of the season.

Transfer student Kristan Bressum shined in his Buccaneer debut, showing to have a promising season. Bressum posted a top-20 finish at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate, as tournament play came to an end on Sunday. Bressum, who totaled three straight rounds of par or better, finished in 18th place with one under par.

As the tournament came to an end ETSU finished with 36 over par, and claimed 13th place. With the season opener complete, the Bucs now look ahead to the Valero Texas Collegiate, in San Antonio, Texas on Sept. 21-23.
