This past Saturday saw the ETSU Men’s Soccer team come to a 2-2 draw against non-conference foe, the UNCW Seahawks. Despite the tie, the Buccaneers showed improvement, especially after coming off a 6-0 loss on the road against the No. 17 North Carolina Tarheels.

During the match, the Bucs were able to strike two goals early, within the first 25 minutes of play. Graduate forward, Gabriel Ramos (Sao Paulo, Brazil) alongside junior defender, Henrique Cruz (Sao Paulo, Brazil) captured the goals for the Bucs. Throughout the remainder of the first half of play, the Bucs would lead 2-0.

In the 53 minute of play, the Seahawks would find a way to start scratching back, as Osei Gyamfi (Kumasi, Ghana) would close the lead 2-1. Only seven minutes later, the Seahawks would strike once more, as Josef Hefele (Munich, Bavaria, Germany) would tie the game 2-2 in the 60 minute of play.

With only 20 minutes of play left, the Bucs and Seahawks would battle back-and-forth, with UNCW outshooting the Bucs on goal 15-7. By the end of the game, both sides were called for eight fouls each.

In the loss, the Buccaneers now look ahead, with a 1-2-2 record. With the loss now behind them, the team prepares for a lengthy four-game road swing starting on Sept. 11 against High Point, other matches include games against the South Carolina Gamecocks, UNC Asheville Bulldogs, and concluding against the Wake Forrest Demon Deacons. The Buccaneers will return home on Oct. 6 as SoCon play begins against the VMI Keydets.

There remains plenty of room to improve for our Buccaneers, as second year Head Coach, Allen Vital and staff continue to grow, promising to build and improve the brand of Buccaneers Men Soccer.
