This past Sunday, the ETSU women’s triathlon athletes competed at a local Lake Davidson competition. 64 athletes came to compete, nine of which were Buccaneers. Coming off of an impressive first-place finish on Aug. 30 Aquathon, our Buccaneers had plenty left to prove. With over 20 top finishes overall, the Bucs were able to capture three of the top twenty in total.

Freshman Julia Visgueiro (Coubron, France), a former French league champion, would go on to place second amongst the entire field in play. With a field time of 58:22, Visgueiro was 0.2 seconds behind Emma Olson-Keating of Queens University for first-place. Her performance highlights her incredible potential and the strength of the team.

Alongside Visgueiro, teammates sophomore and former high school state champion, Emily Coonce (Cookeville, Tenn.) and 2022-23 Southern Conference honor roll recipient, Sarah Plant (Chandler, Ariz.) placed 18th and 20th with times,  1:01:14 and 1:01:18 respectfully.

Other Buccaneer athletes such as freshmen, Mia Remorca (Frisco, Texas) and former cross country state champion, sophomore Taylor Walker (Murfreesboro, Tenn.). Both performed admirably, placing in the upper half of the competitive field. Their contributions underscore the depth and promise of the Buccaneers’ triathlon team.

The Lake Davidson event showcased the Buccaneers’ commitment and skill, marking a successful chapter in their triathlon season as they continue to build on their achievements and strive for future success.

Looking ahead, our Bucs have three more competitions left. The next of the three being Robious Landing Triathlon, scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 29 at 10 a.m. in Chesterfield, Va. Within the next competition, the Bucs have a chance to shine again, move into a more comfortable position in and outside of the Southern Conference and prepare for more the winter season that lay ahead.
