ETSU’s ROTC will host their annual Hall of Fame on Nov. 14. This showcase honors and celebrates past alumni veterans or community members who have supported ETSU’s ROTC program, and this year they are inducting three people.

As the Hall of Fame Induction is underway, the three inductees are 1st Lt. Daniel Mullins and James and Virginia Reed. Mullins was an alumni of ETSU who served during the Vietnam War. Unfortunately, while serving, he was killed in August of 1967. Every year, ROTC honors a member who was killed in action, this year, it is Mullins.

Due to the unfortunate passing of Mullins, there will be someone traveling to receive his award for him. He will be traveling from Manassas, Virginia, to honor and speak on behalf of Mullins. Normally, if a person is killed in action, a family member would come on their behalf. Unfortunately, Mullins’ family has passed away, but he was contacted and will come on his behalf.

The other two inductees are James and Virginia Reed. James Reed is the Father of James Eddie Reed, who attended ETSU and served. James Reed, Eddie’s son, attended ETSU for a year before transferring to Texas A&M. His wife, Virginia, is from Kingsport and helps support ETSU ROTC’s program alongside her husband.

“The Reeds, our second and third recipients, have come to every Eddie Ranger Challenge event. They come out to anything involving ROTC, they support monetarily or just with their presence. They have made a huge impact on our battalion, so we just wanted to honor them,” stated Emmanuelle Schwarzen, a cadet officer.

This special one-hour ceremony will take place in the Carnegie Hotel. Thank you for your service and hard work, and congratulations on being inducted into the Hall of Fame.
