The Pride Center, Women and Gender Resource Center and Counseling Center are teaming up to host a sock puppet making event.
“It is silliness, born out of silliness, from a bunch of silly-minded people,” said Bethanie Dye, Pride Center coordinator. The overwhelmingly positive feedback from the “Welcome Back Arts and Crafts” event last semester led to the creation of this semester’s sock puppet event.
The sock puppet creation will take place in the D.P. Culp Student Center Cave on Jan. 30 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is open to all students and all supplies will be provided.
“We want students to see our fun event as well as who we are, what we offer, see that we are in this building and that we are here for them,” said Dye, regarding choosing the Cave for this event. “There are a lot of things that all three of our areas offer, some of them overlap and some are unique to their centers, but we are three areas that are really invested in student wellbeing and mental health.”
If you miss the sock puppet event, there are more events to come. These will include a catered prom, Women’s History Month events, earring-making and thank-you card making for influential women.
“Our centers aren’t scary or exclusive of anybody, we are here for all of our students,” said Dye. “If you are not sure where to go for help, you can start with us. We always have snacks.”
Dye noted the Pride Center encourages collaboration and is open to input from students.
