The ETSU men’s tennis team, on a somewhat warmer game day, was able to capture a victory against the Presbyterian Scotsmen on Wednesday. In a score of 6-1, the game marked the first victory of the 2025 spring season for the Bucs. However, the advantage was not always in the favor of the Buccaneers.

The Scotsmen were able to move to an early advantage in the early sets. In doing so, the Bucs found themselves down by double points. Despite the early struggles, the Buccaneers were able to capture momentum, launching an offensive attack during singles action. Combined, the Bucs were a perfect 6-0 in their pursuit of singles play.

ETSU’s own, junior Peter Kalocsai (Budapest, Hungary) would see the most success. During their two single competition sets, Kalocsai was able to come up victorious in a score of 7-6 and 6-1 in the final set.

In addition to the success of Kalocsai, senior Martin Garcia-Ripoll (Murcia, Spain) would also go 2-0 in singles competition against Presbyterians Evgenios Vasilakis in scores of 6-2, and 6-1.

The victory over the Scotsmen find the Buccaneers with a 1-2 record on the early spring season. A much needed victory, which will determine momentum moving forward for the Buccaneers. ETSU men’s tennis returns to action on Feb. 12 against the UNC Asheville Bulldogs looking for back-to-back victories.
