Well, well, well . . . look who got a new building! The Well, a non-denominational Christian campus ministry, recently celebrated the opening of its new home.

“Our goal is to reach students with the love of Christ and give them an environment where they feel safe and comfortable and can grow in their faith,” said Alex Moore, promo team leader.

Twenty-seven years ago, ETSU student James McNeill, now director of ministry, started The Well in his parents’ basement. His wife, Samantha McNeill, later joined as the women’s director. The organization has since grown and moved around temporary spaces until the construction of its now permanent home.

The Well purchased the land in 2018 before fundraising, but the COVID-19 pandemic paused construction. The long-awaited project was completed recently, with the first gathering in the new building taking place on Jan. 22.

The new building features an auditorium where worship and teachings take place as well as small group rooms. The Well Coffee Shop will be opening soon, serving craft coffee to attendees.

The Well hosts worship gatherings every Wednesday at 8:20 p.m. at 820 W. Walnut St. They also host small groups for freshman, transfer students and upperclassmen. It is free and open to all students in the area.

“It is an exciting time for us right now with the new building,” said Moore. “It is cool to see how the community has come together to support us.”

Aside from the regular worship services, the next event in the new building will be the Super Bowl Party starting at 6 p.m. on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 9. There will be a $7 charge to cover the provided food and drinks.

“My favorite part is the community – some of my best friends have come from The Well,” said Moore. “It is cool growing together in our faith and our friendships.”
