The ETSU women’s basketball team secured their first conference road win of the season, taking down Furman 72-62 on Thursday night in Greenville.

Junior guard Paige Lyons led the charge with a career-high 23 points, shooting 7-of-12 from the field and 9-of-11 from the charity stripe. Guard Courtney Moore added 17 points and a career-high three blocks, while freshman guard Carmen Richardson racked up 13 points alongside three assists. Forward Isabella Hunt rounded out the double-digit scorers with 12 points.

The Bucs’ 72 points marked their highest-scoring road game of the season, surpassing the 61 they posted at Lipscomb in November. A key highlight to the victory was their efficiency at the free throw line. ETSU knocked down a season-best 22 of 27 attempts.

This game was defense heavy to start out, both teams started slow on the offensive side of the ball, keeping the game tied 12-12 after the first quarter. Furman held a slim 28-27 lead at halftime, but the Bucs kept themselves in it by consistently getting to the free throw line.

ETSU took control in the second half. Richardson and Moore found their rhythm in the third, pushing the Bucs ahead heading into the final frame. From there, Lyons and Moore took over, combining for 22 of ETSU’s 27 fourth-quarter points. Team chemistry was a big factor in this matchup and the women showed they can get it done.

With the win, head coach Brenda Mock Brown improved to 4-1 against Furman. The Bucs (12-9, 3-3 SoCon). For more information on Buccaneer women’s basketball, follow @ETSU_WBB on X (Twitter) and Instagram, and visit ETSUBucs.com.
