ETSU softball would route the Maine Black Bears 12-6 over the weekend in the first game of the Pinnacle PC Invitational. Coming into the game, the Bucs sat with a 2-4 record overall record to a young season.

The Bucs are looking at year-over-year improvement. With the win over the Black Bears, the Bucs will be able to use the momentum to move forward.

The game against Maine would bring a lot of first for the battling Bucs. Senior infielder, Cameron Young (Knoxville, Tenn.) would lead the team with a pair of doubles, while in the process being a perfect 4-for-4 at times at bat. In addition, Bucs junior Taylor Suchy (Sterling, Va) would also collect a double of their own.

Moving on to on-mound action, veteran pitcher, sophomore Cameron Lauretta (Las Vegas, Nev.) would pitch for 5.1 innings with an impressive seven strikeouts. Towards the end of the game, relief pitcher, freshmen Carlin Pennington (Jackson, Ky.) would come in to close off the game. In total, the Bucs would see 17 hits, a season best.

Despite the great first game performance, the Bucs would struggle at bat in the next game of the Invitational, dropping to Presbyterian. ETSU beat Maine again 3-1 on Saturday, to end the invitational with a 2-1 record. Sunday’s invitational games were canceled.

Looking ahead, the Bucs will have the opportunity to learn from the wins and even the early season loses. Creating a path to move forward in, ultimately creating a new, winning culture.

The Bucs will return to action once the invitational is complete, immediately returning to action in the 2025 Rocket City Softball Showcase. With the likes of Louisiana Tech, Mississippi, and James Madison amongst the competition.
