The Black Affairs Association will host their annual semi-formal on Feb. 22 in the D.P. Culp Student Center Ballroom from 8 p.m. to midnight.  Students are encouraged to dress in black 1920s attire to match the Harlem Renaissance theme.

Naomi Gates, vice president of Black Affairs, came up with the idea for the semi-formal and its theme. The event is intended to wrap up Black History Month with a campus celebration, shared Jade Barfield, president of Black Affairs.

“We all get together, there’s food, there’s good music, just a good time with friends,” said Barfield.

Food will be provided along with a mocktail bar and photo booth. “We’re going to have some cute little drinks. It will just be really nice,” said Barfield.

The event is open to all students, and while dressing to the theme is encouraged, it is not required.

Barfield looks forward to seeing people having fun and socializing. “I’m really looking forward to the social aspect,” said Barfield. “It’s one of our biggest events.”

This semester is full of fun events hosted by Black Affairs such as a yoga class, de-stress slime night and a potluck–style cookout. A speaker will also focus on mental health and how to find balance during finals.
