The Pharmacy Career Exploration Day will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the VA Campus, Building 7, the main pharmacy building, and the Bishop Hall Center for Interprofessional Collaboration.
The event will showcase different careers in pharmacy and paths to get into the field. Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy is home to pharmacists representing over 30 different specialties, many of which will be present at the event.
Some of the options for pharmacists include clinical, compounding, psychiatric, ambulatory care and community pharmacy.
The exploration day is meant to be interactive, with hands-on labs and simulations, lunch and learn with pharmacy students and interaction with practicing pharmacists.
“It is transformative for students making their decision on pharmacy school,” said Becky Dunkelberger, assistant director of enrollment for Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy.
The event is open to anyone interested in pharmacy school, including non-traditional, high school and undergraduate students.
“I like the interactive part, like watching the students see what they can do and how they can interact with standardized patients. Our faculty is very involved in that,” said Dunkelberger.
The interprofessional building is a resource used to bring together all health science students to create teams that mimic real healthcare settings. They work with standardized patients, or actors, as well as dummies in simulation rooms and labs to progress their healthcare skills.
If you miss this event, look out for future open houses and tours as well as the GattonRx Summer Camp. The Pharmacy Career Exploration Day will be hosted again in the fall.
