March Madness is right around the corner, and the ETSU women’s basketball team made sure to enter the postseason on a high note. In their regular season finale, the Buccaneers defeated Furman 62-50 on Saturday, securing their 17th win of the season and a third-place finish in the Southern Conference standings.

Combo guard Courtney Moore (Gainesville, Fla.) led the way with 20 points, guiding ETSU (17-12, 10-4 SoCon) to a victory over the struggling Paladins (15-15, 5-9 SoCon), who entered the contest desperate to salvage their season. The Bucs took control early, jumping out to a 17-8 lead after the first quarter, fueled by strong defensive pressure and efficient shooting.

Furman responded in the second, outscoring ETSU 16-13 to cut into the deficit before halftime. Leading 30-24 at the break, the Bucs knew they had to maintain their intensity to close out the win.

The Paladins continued their push in the third, taking a 15-12 scoring edge to pull within three points heading into the final frame. However, ETSU reasserted its dominance in the fourth quarter, outscoring Furman 20-11 to seal the victory. The Bucs’ defensive intensity and clutch shooting down the stretch proved to be the difference.

With the win, ETSU secured the No. 3 seed in the SoCon Tournament and will face Furman again in the quarterfinals on Thursday, March 6, in Asheville, N.C. With postseason play now officially here, the  Bucs will look to carry their momentum into the conference tournament as they aim for an NCAA Tournament bid.
