The Friends of the Public Library’s annual spring book sale is around the corner. It will be located at the Johnson City Public Library on Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a $5 Sack sale on Sunday, April 27, from 1 to 3 p.m.

The Friends of the Public Library is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the welfare of the Johnson City Public Library. The group aids in helping with library funding for physical and digital library materials, programs and staff support through fall and spring book sales and other sales throughout the year.

“We are volunteers who work together to support our public library, which is an important and vital part of our community,” said Julia Swanson, president of the organization.

The book sale begins Friday, April 25, with a special Friends Appreciation event during the preview sale for members of the organization from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The weekend will consist of the book sale on Saturday and the Sack Sale on Sunday.

The book sale consists of high-quality used books, vinyl records, puzzles, CDs and DVDs. The prices vary, with hardbacks being $3, paperbacks, children’s chapter books, puzzles, vinyl albums and DVDs being $1. CDs are bought four for $1, and children’s board books are two for $1, as well as picture and easy reader books.

The Friends will also have a special sale of a unique collection of first-edition mystery/thriller books. With many signed by the author, these books are in good condition and will be $6 each, sold separately.

All proceeds from the sale go to support the Johnson City Public Library as well as sponsored programs and items of the Friends, such as Hoopla Digital Library, Scholastic Book Fair Book Bucks, Wowbrary Subscription, author and storytelling events, staff development and library IQ software.

“When someone comes to the Friends book sale and makes a purchase, they will be bringing home some great books to read, music to listen to or movies to watch. They will also be supporting our wonderful Johnson City Public Library, which is an important part of our community,” said Swanson.

If you miss this book sale, the Friends will be having a fall book sale in October and an ongoing book sale on the first floor of the public library during operating hours. The books in the sale are donated by the community. If you wish to donate, the Friends have a drop-off event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. every first Saturday of every month. The drop-off location is the curbside pickup area at the Johnson City Public Library. Ensure that bags are small enough for one person to carry.
