At the top of the week, the ETSU women’s golf team traveled to Solina Golf Course in South Carolina for the annual Southern Conference Championship tournament. A multi-round, multi-day event featuring all nine SoCon teams, the battle in both individual and team competition teed off with a bang.
The Bucs sent six players, most notably breakout sophomore Brianna Castaldi (Port Saint Lucie, Fla.), who is ranked No. 552 nationally among collegiate players – the highest-ranking golfer for ETSU. She was joined by redshirt sophomore Sydney Harz (Freiburg, Germany), senior Alex Crafton (Lake Mary, Fla.), junior Katie Hall, and freshman McKenzie Hauk. The Buccaneers finished fourth overall in team standings. In individual standings, Castaldi placed 29th, followed by finishes of 12th (Harz), 37th (Crafton), and others. As the first day of action wrapped up, the Bucs moved on to doubles competition. Hauk stood tall for the team, finishing eighth overall. Hauk would prove to be the most consistent of the day for the traveling Buccaneers throughout the long days competition. Crafton and Hauk also found success in the birdie department, collecting three each.
Facing off against SoCon standout Audrey Ryu (Dublin, Ohio), a sophomore representing rival Furman, the Bucs fought hard to stay competitive. With only two days of competition remaining, ETSU looks to bounce back stronger than ever. With the rest of the season now behind them, the Buccaneer women’s golf team is ready for any and all challenges that come their way.
