Wrapping up an unforgettable lineup of shows, the ETSU Martin Center for the Arts brings its 2025 Spring Broadway Season to a close with the award-winning musical Come From Away.
Taking inspiration from true events, this production tells the story of kindness and community as we follow the story of 7,000 airline passengers who are stranded in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, in the aftermath of 9/11.
As the final chapter in a season full of laughter, heartache and unforgettable moments, Come From Away promises to leave audiences with a deeply emotional message that encapsulates the spirit of everything this season has stood for.
“Come From Away is one of the most powerful and uplifting musicals to come out of Broadway in the past decade,” stated Jennifer Clements, executive director of the ETSU Martin Center. “What drew us to this show was its deeply human message — one of kindness, resilience, and community. That kind of story felt like a perfect fit for the Martin Center and the audiences we serve.”
Following titans of productions such as Pretty Woman, Hadestown and Dear Evan Hansen, the final act of the 2025 Spring Broadway season delivers more than just a finale, it delivers a message.
“Each show this season brings something different to the table, and Come From Away closes out the season with a sense of unity and hope,” stated Clements. “It’s a powerful final note, not just in terms of performance, but in the emotional journey we want to offer our audiences.”
For Johnson City and the ETSU community, the story hits especially close to home, notedly after the effects of Hurricane Helene. Built on shared values of service and care, the community’s spirit echoes the one portrayed on stage.
“Come From Away speaks directly to the compassion and togetherness that define this region,” stated Clements. “It shows how, in moments of crisis, small acts of kindness can grow into something extraordinary.”
Clocking in at just over 90 minutes with no intermission, this show is a constant whirlwind of emotion, energy and storytelling that lingers with the audience long after the final bow.
Come From Away isn’t just a show you watch; it’s a story that draws you in and makes you feel like you’re truly a part of it.
“We hope that audiences leave feeling inspired and hopeful,” stated Clements. “This show isn’t just about Newfoundland — it’s about what we’re all capable of when we show up for one another. As the final show of our season, we hope it leaves everyone feeling a little more hopeful, a little more connected and reminded of the power of compassion.”
Clements also expressed deep gratitude to those who made the production possible, including generous sponsors and community supporters.
“We’re incredibly thankful to our 2025 Spring Broadway Season presenter, Bank of Tennessee, and to Tri-Cities Airport for sponsoring Come From Away,” said Clements. “A big thank-you as well to our media sponsor, News 5 WCYB, and to our amazing staff, volunteers, and patrons. You all make it possible for Broadway to thrive in our region.”
As the curtain falls on this remarkable season, one thing remains clear: the ETSU Martin Center for the Arts has become more than a stage. It’s a place where stories come to life and where community comes together.
