SGA is hosting ETSU’s first Senior Sunset with plans to make it an annual tradition in the future. The event will be held on May 9 from 7 to 9 p.m. at William B. Greene Jr. Stadium.
“Senior Sunset is what we make of it in a sense. This is the first year we’ve ever done it. But ideally, it will be people gathering with their friends and with their family and saying goodbye to seniors. Senior Sunset is happening the day right after finals and right before Commencement, so it seemed like the perfect window to celebrate and also to say goodbye and transition students to life outside of college,” said Jonathan Roberts, SGA senator.
SGA will be partnering with Letters of Love for the event to allow seniors an opportunity to write notes as they reminisce on their college journeys. Letters of Love will then take the messages and place them over tea lights spread throughout the turf to light up the field.
The main purpose of the event is to offer a space for seniors to gather with family and friends, celebrate accomplishments, reflect on the memories experienced during their college years and say goodbye to the friends made.
There will also be food and music for everyone to enjoy while watching the sunset.
“One of the big points Hunter Turgeon hit in his campaign last spring was trying to bring more traditions to campus, so this one specifically for seniors is special because it lets students know that even though they’re about to leave, we still care about them and we want to send them off well and make their last couple of days on campus really memorable and special,” said Roberts.
