ETSU’s Campus Recreation is preparing for a semester full of activities. With events ranging from flag football to a Dungeons and Dragons backpacking trip, there’s something to excite students of every interest.

The semester starts off strong with events throughout Welcome Week, giving students opportunities to jump into campus life. Three major events are scheduled for the first week of classes: the Block Party, the Campus Rec and SGA Pool Party, and Sunset Yoga on the Field. The Block Party will take place on Aug. 24 at the former Tri-Hall Field, now named the Bonnie Burchett Field.

“Students can expect to welcome everyone back to campus. You can see all the possibilities ahead—it’s going to be a great year for student involvement,” said Campus Recreation Director Kari Albarado.

The pool party will be held Aug. 26 at 6 p.m. and will give students the chance to learn about campus sports, with 21 sport clubs scheduled to attend and share information with interested students.

Aug. 28 at 7 p.m., yoga at Greene Stadium will give students a relaxing end to the first week of classes. Albarado said the event typically draws around 200 students and offers a unique way to unwind from the Welcome Week rush.

Welcome Week is full of fun activities, but the momentum doesn’t end after the first week of classes. Campus Rec staff are eagerly anticipating events throughout the fall semester in intramural sports, outdoor adventure and group fitness.

Intramural events include flag football, softball, volleyball, pickleball and more, giving students plenty of ways to get active. Outdoor adventure has hikes and backpacking trips planned, as well as paddleboarding and a fall break trip to Yancey Ridge. There are plenty of options for group fitness including a “Spin with Sabrina and Tate” class, a Taylor Swift-themed yoga session, and a Halloween “Pumpkin Pump” workout event.

“If you make taking care of your physical well-being a priority, and have a routine of working out or being involved in sports or clubs, there’s a lot of positive benefits to that,” said Albarado. “It gives you connection and is a positive activity outside of class to help reduce stress and stay healthy, as well as meet people and be engaged in the community.”

Campus Recreation has big plans for fall and is eager for students to get involved. Staying up to date on events is easy by following @etsucampusrec on Instagram or through advertisements, fliers and information posted in the CPA.
