JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – After a two and a half hour lightning delay, the Buccaneers took the field with their focus intact.

Elon came into the game with a 2-2 record on the season, showing flashes of promise but also susceptibility to mistakes. ETSU’s more balanced attack and stronger control in the trenches gave the Buccaneers an edge in almost every facet of the game, limiting the challenge Elon’s offense usually poses.

The 26-16 win showcased major improvement for ETSU, limiting Elon’s scoring opportunities and coming up with key stops when it mattered most. The Bucs forced multiple turnovers and held Elon to just 16 points, frustrating the Phoenix with tight coverage and aggressive pressure up front. The defensive unit set the tone early and closed the game strong, stealing the win late in the fourth quarter.

The victory also marked a bounce-back win for ETSU, who entered the contest looking to shake off a disappointing loss to West Georgia just a week earlier. The Bucs delivered one of their most complete performances of the season. Offensively, the Bucs put together long sustained drives and finished them with points, while on defense they kept it fast and physical.

The Buccaneers now find themselves 2-2 on the season, hoping to carry this winning momentum into SoCon play next week. The Bucs will take on the Mercer Bears at home in William B. Greene Jr. Stadium on Sept. 27. Kickoff will be at 5:30 p.m.
