Acoustic Autumn is showcasing local talent with free concerts every Thursday in October. The concerts will take place in downtown Johnson City at Founders Park Amphitheater from 6-7:30 p.m. each week during the series.
The first concert was held Thursday, Oct. 2, and featured mandolin player Thomas Cassell. Other performances will include Madi Foster on Oct. 9, Dan Trull on Oct. 16, Trevin Sluss on Oct. 23 and Seth Thomas on Oct. 30.
ETSU is one of the event sponsors this year. The concert on Oct. 9 will be featured as ETSU Night for ETSU’s Annual Founders Week.
“Founders Week was started three years ago as a way for us to celebrate the legacy and the history of ETSU,” said Timothy Lewis, director for undergraduate recruitment. “We were founded in October 1911, so it’s our way to celebrate the accomplishments of ETSU over the course of its time as an institution, and also to look forward to what the university and the institution will continue to accomplish.”
ETSU Night attendees are encouraged to dress in blue and gold to show their ETSU pride. Bucky will be there for photos and to hang out while listening to local singer-songwriter Foster.
“Acoustic Autumn is a chance for us to show that as part of our founding, something that’s always been a fabric of our university is engaging in our region and going beyond just the four walls of the classroom, going beyond just the campus, and getting out in the community,” Lewis said.
The Acoustic Autumn series is one of many events hosted by Downtown Johnson City’s Main Street Program to foster community engagement and sustain a vibrant downtown environment.
“Acoustic Autumn is a chance to stop during the busyness of everybody’s day-to-day schedule, to be outside in our beautiful region, enjoying the start of some fall leaves, and just be in community with each other and with the people of this region while listening to some really good music,” Lewis said.
