On Thursday night, ETSU women’s soccer delivered a commanding performance at home against Wofford. This lands the Bucs at 8-2-3 on the season. They remain undefeated in SoCon play with a 3-0-1 record following the match against Wofford.
The Buccaneers had control of the field from the opening whistle. They got themselves on the board early, with a goal from freshman Reagan Fitzgerald in the fourth minute. Wofford struggled to respond, not able to break the pressure from ETSU or generate any kind of sustained possession. The second goal came in the 26th minute when the Bucs sliced through the Terrier back line after a quick buildup.
The second half of the match did not see ETSU slowing down at all. The Bucs sealed the deal with a third goal in the 66th minute. They outshot Wofford 7-0 in the second half. Goalkeeper Elizabeth Navola worked overtime to keep the Bucs from scoring. Wofford came into the match still searching for their first conference win. Known for their physical and scrappy style of play and a notable midfield presence, they have displayed potential this season but struggle with keeping that consistently.
This win should serve the Bucs as not only a confidence booster, but also a blueprint for the next weeks of conference play. Consistency in the attacking third– particularly in scoring chances and maintaining the pressure late in games– remains an area for growth. However, their ability to control possession, maintain defensive discipline and capitalize on set pieces has been a hallmark of their success this season.
The Buccaneers have their eyes firmly set on the conference title, and are working their way towards it. The team will travel next to Greenville, South Carolina, to face Furman on Friday, October 10.
