The Reece Museum has acquired reaccreditation from the American Alliance of Museums (AAM). AAM accreditation increases credibility and is highly recognized. The alliance connects thousands of museums of all kinds across the nation, and works to encompass history museums to science centers. It fights for museums through advocacy, support, and providing resources.

Fewer than 1,200 of  33,000 museums hold this distinction, placing the Reece Museum among an elite group. The Reece Museum is located at the heart of ETSU’s main campus, providing art shows, exhibitions, and a place for storytelling to community members. The museum honors Appalachian tradition and history while giving students and art-makers a place for expression.

Reaccreditation involves a year-long process of self-study, a site visit, and the accreditation decision made by the Accreditation Commission. As one of the first museums in Tennessee to recieve AMM accreditation, the museum remains one of 17 to achieve this honor in the state.

Current and upcoming exhibitions at the Reece Museum include: The Place Speaks: Sacred and Artistic Genealogies of Appalachia – available for viewing until Friday, Dec. 12. The exhibition examines how Appalachian traditions and folklore are displayed in art. Memory to Materials & Objects – explores LeKesha Lee’s personal history through a mixture of materials. The exhibition is available for viewing until Friday, 12 Dec.

Appalachian Remix: Hip Hop Album Art by Regional Artists – Currently, the Reece Museum is accepting artwork to be included in their upcoming exhibition. Appalachian Remix will explore the visual arts of hip hop culture. Submissions are due by Friday, Oct. 17. The display will be open from Monday, Nov. 3, to Friday, Dec. 5.
