Since Sept. 19, 2025, the ETSU softball team has been playing one to two exhibition games every week to prepare for their upcoming season. Their 2026 season starts in February, and there is sure a lot to look out for.
The starting lineup consists five freshman, mostly juniors and seniors with a few sophomores sprinkled in. The experience behind the Buccaneers softball team will be hard for others teams to defeat. Some notable players to look out for this upcoming season are Tiare Reiger, Gabrielle Fowler and Leinani Lutu.
Reiger still holds her high school’s top batting average in a season with a 0.651. Fowler holds her high school’s all-time strikeout record, with her career ERA being 1.55 with 389 strikeouts. Lutu is a transfer student coming from Grand Canyon University, where she helped her team win back-to-back conference championships in 2024 and 2025.
In the 2025 spring season, the ETSU softball team had an overall score of 18-37, making it all the way to the SoCon Championship.
The Buccaneers only have one more exhibition match before their fall ball games come to an end. This game will be against the Tusculum Pioneers on Friday, Oct. 24. This game will be played at Betty Basler Field in Johnson City, Tenn. Make sure to go support your Buccaneers in their final exhibition game, and wish them luck as they prepare for their season coming up in just 4 short months.
