Today, we’re going to be focusing on a tale that comes out of Bluff City, which is approximately 20 to 30 minutes north of Johnson City. This tale is of a mysterious scream that has been heard in the woods, which many believe comes from a creature or a spirit named the White Screamer.
To get into the details, the scream is heard only at night, deep within the woods, and is described as piercing and bloodcurdling. It is heard echoing throughout the entirety of the woods.
Once again, many people believe that this is some evil creature or spirit that lives or haunts the woods in Bluff City. This is mainly because the most famous story behind the White Screamer tells of a family living in the area that kept hearing the screamer. One night, it had become so deafening that the father left his home to go investigate. Upon exploration, he found absolutely nothing, but when he returned to his house, it was absolutely destroyed, with everyone under its roof slaughtered.
Many people believe that this is the ghost of a woman in despair. It’s said that this woman is a ghost who, while she was living, killed her child by throwing them into a ravine and then jumped, killing herself. Her weeping from these acts is being echoed throughout time and rustling leaves in its wake.
The other main theory is that it is a werewolf or something very similar to it. While no one has witnessed anything to go along with the screams, not many believe in the werewolf theory, especially since it doesn’t line up with any other characteristics of the werewolf, such as how they act and sound.
Though the origins of the story are unknown, this tale of the White Screamer has been passed down from generation to generation. As more and more people claim to hear the scream, some report being lured out to see the cause in fear that a woman is in danger.
