This Wednesday, Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) will be hosting the 24th annual Notable Women Award Ceremony. The event will run from 5-7 p.m. and will be held in the East Tennessee Room in the D.P. Culp Student Center.
The ceremony serves to honor and celebrate notable women at ETSU who have made a significant impact on campus or within the larger community, inspired other women through their professional and personal journeys and made significant contributions within their discipline or field of interest.
This year, the ceremony will honor awardees Christine Lewis from the Department of Counseling and Human Services and Cara Harker from the Department of Theatre and Dance.
The event will begin with a formal welcome by Director of WGSS Stacey Williams, followed by remarks from President Brian Noland and Joe Bidwell, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Awardees Lewis and Harker will also be invited to speak and answer questions about their professional and personal journeys leading to this moment.
“This is a beloved annual event when the campus and broader communities come together to hear about the life journeys of two accomplished women, how their personal and professional lives have intertwined to get them where they are today and the important role of mentors in our lives,” Williams said. “What is more inspiring than that?”
The Notable Women Ceremony was created to recognize and share the expertise and accomplishments of the women at ETSU, while also providing a space to further generate conversations about their ideas, research and projects. It also seeks to bring attention to the women faculty whose research has advanced knowledge and understanding specifically related to women and their lives.
There will be a reception that attendees can enjoy before, during or after the ceremony.
