Last week, we delved into the story of the Tennessee State Prison, and as I mentioned in that article, prisons are a breeding ground for hauntings. But if there were any other place that would one-up the paranormal, it would be hospitals. Today, we’re going to jump into the Haunted Old South Pittsburgh Hospital Paranormal Research Center.
In 1959, four medical professionals founded the hospital, which was initially named South Pittsburgh Municipal Hospital. The main reason behind creating this hospital was to meet the needs of the growing community, though the hospital was not open for long and closed in 1998
While the hospital was open, it cared for a diverse range of people for various reasons, and sadly, as is often the case in hospitals, not everyone survived their stay.
Even while the hospital was running, many people reported different paranormal activities. Most commonly, employees would report witnessing objects moving completely on their own. Some of these objects were smaller, but some reports even included hospital beds that moved fully across the room, seemingly by themselves.
Another common phenomenon that employees witnessed was dark, shadowy figures that would move about the hospital. So many people saw these figures and were so scared that they had police investigate the hospital on many different occasions because they were under the assumption that someone had broken in and was trying to harm employees or patients, but every search came back negative. There was no one found, and it seemed there was no reason for people to be seeing the shadow figures.
In addition to the shadowy figures, many people also reported hearing voices coming from thin air. Specifically on the third floor of the hospital, people have reported a shadowy figure that stands at least 7 feet tall. If that isn’t scary enough, this also comes with the verbal warning to get out. Although no one has been physically harmed by this apparition, it is very clear that it does not want people in its presence.
Just a floor below, many people witness three distinct ghosts, the first of which is a child who is approximately 2 to 3 years old, who actively wants to play with the living. He has even been reported asking to be picked up. Therefore, due to his kindness, he is referred to as Buddy.
Along with this, there are also reports of an elderly woman and a female nurse, but they are not as common as Buddy.
While it makes sense for a hospital to be a very active paranormal space due to the many who were injured, ailed, or sadly passed during their stay, some people also report that the intensity is due to a natural spring that runs underneath the hospital, which apparently attracts paranormal activity.
Now, whether or not this spring has anything to do with the hauntings at the hospital is unknown. Still, with every report, there could definitely be something paranormal happening in this hospital, which is what makes it one of the most haunted hospitals in America.
