ETSU’s Student Ceramics Association hosted its semiannual ceramics sale Nov. 19-20 in Borchuck Plaza, aiming to raise funds for student opportunities and showcase the work created by members.
This semester’s Student Ceramics Association Sale was considered a success, generating revenue to support students’ participation in conferences, workshops and upcoming speaker events.
“People were excited with how productive the sale was. Lots of things sold,” said Mathew Wheeler, visiting assistant professor of ceramics.
The sale featured pieces made by ceramics students and members of the association. This year, pieces from up to 15 students were featured. The objects sold ranged from kitchenware to earrings.
“It’s up to the students’ own creativity,” Wheeler said. “Whatever they are interested in making, they make.”
Funds raised from the fall sale will be used to bring a visiting artist to campus in the spring. Lisa Orr, a Texas-based ceramic artist known for her colorful pottery, is scheduled to visit in March for demonstrations and learning sessions.
Wheeler appreciates how the sale brings attention to SCA and gives the opportunity for the students’ work to be a part of the holidays.
“It is nice to bring this corner of campus into the light of the student body, faculty and staff,” Wheeler said. “It feels good to have the things that you make be appreciated in the form of people purchasing them to give to their loved ones or use themselves.”
For those who missed the event, information about next semester’s sale will be available on the SCA’s social media platforms. For general inquiries about the club, students are encouraged to visit their BucHub Student Organizations page for contact information of the association’s leadership.
