The ETSU Department of Music will present a Guest Artist Recital on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at 7:30 P.M. The recital will feature works by Beethoven, Ravel, Grieg, and ETSU’s very own Dr. Maria Niederberger, played by guest artists Dr. Miroslav Hristov on violin and Dr. Chih-Long Hu on piano.

Dr. Maria Niederberger, an internationally acclaimed composer, has been with ETSU since 1999 and has taught music theory and composition. Formerly, Dr. Niederberger served as Department Chair until her retirement in 2017. Now, she is a professor emerita of music theory and composition.

“As the composer Maria Niederberger will be present for the East Tennessee debut of her works performed by Drs. Miroslav Hristov and Chih-Long Hu, the event will celebrate her achievements through the artistry of the guest performers.” ETSU’s Dr. Eva Polgar said.

The recital gives ETSU students the chance to expand their knowledge and attend a professional chamber music performance while celebrating Dr. Niederberger’s achievement.

“[Dr. Niederberger’s] Four Movements for Violin and Piano will serve as the centerpiece of the program, framed by violin–piano sonatas by Beethoven, Ravel, and Grieg,” Dr. Polgar said. “This selection of repertoire showcases works ranging from the late 1700s to the present day.”

Additionally, the ETSU Department of Music extends an invitation to the public. Dr. Polgar shares that one focus of the showcase is “to provide ETSU and the Johnson City community with high-quality classical music entertainment, bring audiences to campus, and showcase the artistry of both the guest performers and the composer.”
