On Friday, Nov. 14, the ETSU women’s volleyball team played their final game of the regular season against Wofford, a SoCon rival. With an overall score of 20-6 and this match being played in the home stadium of Brooks Gymnasium, the Buccaneers went into this game fighting for a win.
The first set of the game stayed even between the two teams, with neither getting more than 3 points in front of the other. Wofford pulled ahead in the first half of the set. After a strong kill by number 9 Isabelle Iosua, the Buccaneers kept scoring until they won the set with a final score of 19-25. The second set of the game started very differently from the first, with the Buccaneers taking an early lead and refusing to let up. This set ended quickly with another ETSU win and final score of 23-25.
With only one more set to win before the Buccaneers take home the match, the players were on fire. The score was similar to the first set, with Wofford and ETSU fighting for the lead. In volleyball, the team who wins the set must win by 2 points, which can often lead to a score of over 25. That is exactly what happened in the third set when the Buccaneers and Terriers were tied for 24. However, Wofford eventually pulled ahead and won the set with a final score of 26-24.
The fourth set began rough for the Buccaneers, with Wofford taking an early lead. After a service error from one of the Wofford players, ETSU gained their momentum back and quickly jumped into the lead. Wofford, unwilling to back down, slowly pulled themselves back to tie 24-24 with the Buccaneers. After a kill from number 14 Makayla Bays and an attack error by number 6 Chloe Smith, the ETSU women’s volleyball team won their final regular season match against Wofford with a score of 3-1.
The ETSU women’s volleyball team ended their season with an overall record of 21-6 and their best conference record in program history of 15-1. The team is not only the SoCon Regular Season Champions, but they also clinched the No.1 seed in the 2025 SoCon Tournament, which starts on Friday, Nov. 21. ETSU will play against the winner of the match between Western Carolina and The Citadel on Saturday, Nov. 22, in Asheville, North Carolina.
