With graduations next month, potential transfers and other factors, student organizations must recruit new members and elect new officers. To ease this process, Student Activities and Organizations is holding a workshop on recruitment and leader transitions. This workshop will be Dec. 3 from 3-4:30 p.m. in the D.P. Culp Student Center Room 219.

Recruitment and officer transition are a significant time in an organization’s functioning. Carter Warden, director of Student Activities and Organizations, explained the importance of this process: “Recruitment brings fresh ideas, increases the group’s impact, and builds a stronger community. It also helps identify and grow future leaders who will sustain the organization over time,” he said.

The Student Activities and Organizations office is dedicated to supporting long-term organization and student engagement, and the workshop will help those who are lost in indecision about where to start with recruiting.

“Strong organizations develop leadership early through mentorship, clear documentation, shared responsibilities and structured transition processes,” Warden said. “This helps new leaders feel confident, prepared and ready to continue the group’s success.”

Confidence and preparation for future leaders will ensure stability, knowledge and continuation of organizational functions. This cycle of “passing the torch” to prepared leaders and members will extend an organization’s prosperity beyond its predecessors.

The event will be split into two segments. “Teach to Reach: Recruiting with Purpose and Passion” is from 3-3:45 p.m. A presentation on recruiting will initially be made by student activities staff members, giving organization leaders a chance to ask questions and spark ideas for recruiting new members.

“Smooth Moves: Officer Transitions” will shift to open conversation with experienced leaders from 3:45-4:30 p.m. to guide new leaders in their new positions.

All organizations and members are encouraged to attend this workshop to improve their organizations for the semesters ahead.
