The Appalachian Equality Chorus will present “Spirits and Sparkle: Christmas Concert” at the ETSU Martin Center of the Arts on Sunday, Dec. 14, at 4 P.M.
The Appalachian Equality Chorus first began as the Knoxville Gay Men’s Chorus in 2012 with the leadership of Bleu Copas and Christopher Hamblinwere. The Knoxville Gay Men’s Chorus continued to operate until the COVID-19 pandemic, when the chorus decided it was time to evolve.
In 2022, the Knoxville Gay Men’s Chorus rebranded as the Appalachian Equality Chorus to better represent all of its singers. It expanded to support all LGBTQ+ and allied singers alike. Additionally, the chorus now holds performances and rehearsals in Knoxville and Johnson City to span across Appalachia and broaden their audience.
Their performance will be held in the ETSU Foundation Grand Hall, and will consist of holiday favorites like “White Christmas,” “All I Want for Christmas is You,” and more.
General admission tickets cost $20, and ETSU Student Tickets cost $10. Doors for the performance will open at 3 P.M., while the show will begin at 4 P.M.
There is also a performance held in Knoxville on Friday, Dec. 19, at 8 P.M. and Saturday, Dec. 20, at 2 P.M. They will be presented at the Bijou Theatre, which is known for its history in the heart of Downtown Knoxville.
Coming up in the new year, “Gabby’s Dollhouse LIVE!,” presented by Walmart, will perform at the ETSU Martin Center on Saturday, Jan. 17. Additionally, the ETSU Martin Center Broadway Season will resume Jan. 26 with Meredith Wilson’s “The Music Man.”
In February, the Cantus Vocal Ensemble will take the stage on Saturday, Feb. 7. The Black Jacket Symphony will play Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” on Saturday, Feb. 14.
With a handful of exciting new spectacles, there is never a dull moment at the ETSU Center for the Arts for students and community members to enjoy.
