On Friday, Jan. 23, the ETSU men’s tennis team competed in their first home match this season against Tusculum. Starting the match with a record of 1-3, ETSU was prepared to work hard for the win.

The match started with three doubles matches. ETSU’s pair of Peter Kalocsai and Arenui Luethi won the first doubles match, but Juan Listo and James Sim barely lost with a score of 4-6. With one last doubles to play, Martin Vergara and Kai Cowcher clinched their match to win ETSU the point.

They then moved onto the singles match, where the 6 players participated. All of the bucs won their singles match, with 5 out of 6 players winning theirs in just two matches. With a final match score of 7-0, ETSU wins against Tusculum to bring their spring record to 2-3.

In addition to the ETSU men’s tennis team winning their second match in a row, two players from the team have also been named the SoCon Men’s Tennis Player of the Week. Week one was awarded to junior Oscar Martinez and week two was awarded to redshirt sophomore Martin Vergara due to his outstanding performance in ETSU’s match with Tusculum.

With a winning streak on the line, the Buccaneers go against DePaul on Saturday, Jan. 31 in the neutral territory of Richmond, Va. With DePaul sporting a 0-1 record, neither team has anything to lose.
