Starting off the season strong with a 4-1 record, the ETSU baseball team faced off against the Sacred Heart Pioneers on Friday, Feb. 21, for the first of a three game series. After a long eight innings, ETSU managed to completely shut out its opponent, leading to a 10-0 win.
It was a close game at first, with the score remaining a 1-0 until inning six. Sophomore Axel Melendez hit his stride and managed to get 6 RBIs including 3 home runs and a triple, clearing each one of the bases. Following him, Mason Ault scored two home runs. Tristan Curless then launched a home run over the left field wall, bringing his record to four homers in five games.
Where would the offense be without their defense? Pitcher Tadan Bell maintained five scoreless innings throughout the game. With his fellow pitchers, Andrew Cotten and Stratton Scott, making four innings without any runs. The three of them had a total of 13 strikeouts. These men have also maintained a 2.08 ERA early in the season.
The Bucs swept the series taking home two wins on Saturday, Feb. 21. with finals scores of 26-3 and 11-8.
