To the readers of the East Tennessean,

The East Tennessean has been the highlight of my time at ETSU. I have had the opportunity to explore content creation. However, the best part has been the friendships that I have gained through the staff.

This past year, I had the joy of being the Social Media Manager. I have greatly enjoyed posting online to hopefully gather new readers and followers. This has been a great year for posts ranging from summarized articles, breaking news, meeting the staff, fun reels, weather closures, and so much more.

Throughout the year, I was also able to start writing Katie’s Kitchenette. The idea comes from students, like me, who need a switch from the dining hall. It was also a great way to expand my cooking skills, which were minimal.

I had the complete and total honor of working for the inspiring and talented Executive Editor Macy Strader. There are so many words I could use to describe Macy, but the top three would have to be grace, encouraging and passionate. She embodies what it means to be an Executive Editor and student media leader with these qualities. She is not only passionate about the production of the newspaper, but she leads with grace and encouragement to her staff. Her leadership is an inspiration to me and anyone that is privileged to come in contact with Macy.

My goal for the East Tennessean is to make sure student voices are heard and increasing social media presence. I truly believe the East Tennessean’s mission is informing the students by students, and the best place to start is with our social media. I plan to continue the great work of past Executive Editors and maintain the friendships and bonds of the staff.

As Spider-Man says, “With great power, comes great responsibility.” As the new Executive Editor, I will lead with transparency and dedication as a representative of student media and the East Tennessean. I am excited to work with and for the Bucs to deliver news to the students and alumni.

Let’s kick off another great year!
