As a new season of SoCon sports begins, the athletes are starting to see their hard work during the summer come to fruition. The ETSU women’s volleyball team is a prime example, with two exhibition matches being held before the season begins. The first was against Appalachian State on Aug. 18, where the Buccaneers lost 3-1.

Head Coach Lindsey Devine says that these exhibition matches are a  “valuable teaching tool” for both the coaching staff and the students. The students can turn all of their practice over the summer into real-court experience, while the staff can pinpoint areas to improve on before the regular season starts.

After an overall record of 23-7 and winning the title of SoCon Regular Season Champions in 2025, the ETSU volleyball team is a force to be reckoned with this season. After making it all the way to the championship game and losing against the Wofford Terriers, the Buccaneers cannot wait for their rematch in just a few months.

If you want to support the Buccaneers before their regular season begins, there will be another exhibition match against Gardner-Webb in Boiling Springs, North Caroling, on Aug. 21, starting at 6 p.m. ETSU and Gardner-Webb had an exhibition match last season, with ETSU winning the match 3-0. If you are looking for a match to attend a little closer to home, the Buccaneers Classic is being held on Aug. 238-29 where ETSU will play against Akron University, Auburn University, and Liberty University.
