In a rectangular room filled with musical instruments and sound equipment in Bristol, Tenn., five guys jam their hearts out at least once a week to the music they have put their heart and soul into. These guys are Omega Tribe.
“It’s more of a release than it is anything,” said drummer Scott Thomas.
The band plays heavy metal jams that will leave you in more than one state of emotion. They beat you, soothe you and move you to defiance. It is an exhausting but rewarding experience.
The original members were Thomas, Pat Carter, (vocals), Rick Morrell (guitar), Jason Walsh (guitar) and Johnny Blackburn, (bass).
The band formed in 1999 as a mesh of three bands. Members from Filo Beddo, Blue Cheese and Punchin’ Judy formed Omega Tribe.
The band has recently lost Morrell so that he may spend more time with his family. However, a new prospect jammed with them on Wednesday night.
The band has also placed fifth in Farmclub.com, an online music voting system, in May 2001. Omega Tribe placed eighth overall.
Lyrically this band is in your face. They tell it just like it is with no cherry on top. Lines like “Walking with God/playing with power/stepping on divine toes” leave you wishing to jump right in with all the head banging. Musically they drop kick your eardrums and force you to grind your teeth. This band has a tight sound.
Omega Tribe sounds a lot like Pantera but have mostly an original metal sound.
These guys are down-to-earth, polite people who might let you get away with something outside, but when they step onstage you’re ripped and stripped of all.
Omega Tribe also knows how to party and make everyone feel welcome even if it means re-naming the song “Blood” (a bashing tune) to make a friend feel at home calling it “Dominatrix.”
This is one band and a group of guys that you don’t want to miss out on. If you’re ready for some verbal and physical abuse through metal music, these guys are just the men to do it.
You shouldn’t miss a live performance for anything. New material and another album should be out soon.
Finally Bristol has given birth to a band that takes its metal seriously.
